Description

Attendees will develop best practice interpreting strategies for religious settings, locate resources for prep and technological support useful in Deaf ministries, and have “hands on” training on how to manage challenging scenarios in various religious settings. 

Workshop Objectives:

1.    Attendees will take away three best practice strategies to secure prep for religious interpreting.

2.    Attendees will have hands-on training for challenging worship service scenarios. 

3.    Attendees will learn of technological resources useful in Deaf ministries.

 This workshop will be conducted in ASL

Presenter:  Dale Withrow, NIC-Advanced, BEI Level III

Dale Withrow is a Hearing Certified Interpreter: 35+ years in NC, TX BEI Level III, currently NIC-Advanced. Dale was ordained at Silent Friends Chapel-First Baptist Church-Dallas in 1990 and graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with Masters of Theology with minor in Pastoral Ministry. Father of five Deaf children and grandfather of three grandchildren, Dale is married to Judith Oelfke Withrow. He currently serves in various roles at the Deaf Fellowship at Frederick Church of the Brethren in Frederick, Maryland, which has a full time Pastor to the Deaf for a congregation of approximately 80-100 regular attendees. Between 2007-2015, Dale was the supervisor of the Sorenson Call Center at Gallaudet University, then in 2011, became the Community Interpreting & Auxiliary Supervisor until 2015. He currently works as an Independent Contractor ASL interpreter in the MD//VA/DC area at Federal agencies, medical settings, and Gallaudet Interpreting.

Cost:  VRID members - $50.00 ($55.00 if purchasing lunch from FBC)

            Non-members - $60.00 ($65.00 if purchasing lunch from FBC)

REGISTRATION DUE: MARCH 16, 2020 (required IF ordering lunch from FBC)

NOTE: Registrations after March 16, 2020 will be accepted; however, those registrants will need to make their own arrangements for lunch
