Workshop Description:
Interpreters will observe and interact with a Deaf instructor in a classroom setting.
He will provide extensive instruction of vocabulary & concepts using the four content areas (math, social studies, English/literature, and science) to specific types of students, (Deaf/blind, elementary versus high school students.)
The focus will be on comprehension and production of content-related information in American Sign Language with emphasis on sign production clarity and conceptual accuracy.
Presenter Biography:
Robert Strickler Jr. was born Deaf in Waynesboro, Virginia. He graduated from Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) in 2007. Robert then received his bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies and a minor in Linguistics from Gallaudet University in 2011. He is currently working as a teaching assistant at his alumni VSDB, and as an American Sign Language Drill instructor at the University of Virginia. Robert has been able to teach in various settings and has done some deaf interpreting.
