Workshop Description:

This workshop will present information in American Sign Language in the four content areas of English, Math, Social Studies, and Science in a manner matching the developmental stage of elementary school students. 

Participants will have the opportunity for small group discussions and activities focused on presenting elementary school concepts in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for the age group.

Presenter Bio:

Emily McMillion (she/her) has been a teacher of the Deaf and hard of hearing at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind for five years. Emily graduated from Radford University in 2018 with a degree in Deaf Education and is currently pursuing her Master's in Educational Leadership at Old Dominion University. She has taught students of varying grade levels and language preferences but has a love for elementary-aged students. She currently serves as the lead teacher of the Deaf department and most recently taught preschool. Emily provides direct instruction in ASL in the residential setting and has experience working with varying professionals including interpreters and interveners to provide full access to the educational environment. In her free time, Emily enjoys pottery, travel (most recently to Denver), and collecting any and all new experiences!

This workshop is presented at no cost to K-12 interpreters.  To register, please contact your grant representative. VRID is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This Professional Studies program is offered for 0.6 CEUs at the Little/None Content Knowledge Level.
